As part of The 3DO Company’s diversification strategy, Studio 3DO, the internal publishing and development group, today announced a host of hot titles currently under development for the PC platform. Studio 3DO will bring its expertise in high-end 3-D graphics and intense, addictive game play to the fast-growing PC industry in 1996.
These titles will feature original content and current Studio 3DO hit software developed and customized for the PC platform. Ten titles are scheduled to be released this year. Leading the pack with totally new and original content is an incredible golf title featuring golf pro and current British Open champion John Daly.
The summer line-up is expected to include Star Fighter (TM), a flight-strategy game; 3DO Games: Decathlon (TM), a ten-event track and field competition; and Game Guru (TM) Game Enhancer, a utility product that takes advantage of “cheats” within some of the best-selling games on the personal computer. Later this year, heightened versions of Studio 3DO’s most popular titles will come to the PC platform, such as Killing Time (TM), Blade Force(TM), SnowJob(TM), Captain Quazar(TM), and BattleSport(TM).
“Studio 3DO is an innovative and progressive creator of next generation games,” said Robert Lindsey, general manager of Studio 3DO, The 3DO Company.
“Today’s announcement marks our first move as a multi-platform developer. Expect to see the best of our console graphics and intense game play come to life and change the way consumers view their PCs.”
Though Studio 3DO has only been shipping titles for slightly over a year, the original content has met with rave reviews and accolades from both press and consumers. The studio is currently ramping up with key talent to increase the number of titles being developed in 1996 and 1997. With more than 100 producers, directors, artists, and programmers, the group is poised to become a significant player in the software development and publishing industry.
Studio 3DO expects to support Microsoft’s Direct3D API. Additionally, all software products from Studio 3DO will run under Microsoft’s Windows 95.
Get ready to experience the ultimate in gratuitous explosions and smouldering wreckage with Studio 3DO’s Star Fighter, a 3-D flight-strategy game that will be the first in 3DO’s line-up this summer. This 360 flight simulator, which will be available on the PC and Power Macintosh platforms, gives gamers complete freedom of movement within multiple 3-D worlds with the added element of strategy. To complete the 60-plus levels, gamers must strategize through careful planning, resource management, and knowledge of mission objectives. Users will feel the extremely responsive flight controls set to destroy photo-realistic landscapes which display graphics that have twice the resolution of the original 32-bit game.
3DO Games: Decathlon brings the popular ten-event international track and field spectacular to the PC, giving sports-game fanatics the chance to be selected as the world’s greatest athlete. This is high-end 3-D sports at its best, presented in the latest TV-sports style and portrayed in high-resolution graphics. Motion-capture technology featuring the real movement of world class athletes brings the event to life with ultra-smooth and realistic animation. Users will be able to make their own customized characters train for specific events and build up speed, stamina, and strength as desired. Players can test their skills against the computer or compete against up to three additional players on one computer or up to seven opponents over a local area network.
Studio 3DO’s Game Guru product line will empower users with hints, tips, cheats, and tricks for multiple games through various mechanisms including software, hint books, and support lines. This summer, PC gamers will be able to manoeuvre their way to secret game advantages with the Game Guru Game Enhancer software. The Game Guru Game Enhancer is designed to allow users to get the most out of their games by taking advantage of hidden levels, invincibility, and other cheats, extending the game play from these products.
The Game Guru Game Enhancer includes cheat codes for more than 50 of the best-selling PC titles, including Warcraft II(TM), Command & Conquer (TM), Dark Forces (TM), 7th Guest (TM), Duke Nuke’m 3D(TM), and many more. In addition to this built- in code library, a code generator will allow hard-core gamers to create their own codes.
Studio 3DO develops and publishes interactive titles that combine high-end 3-D graphics with intense, addictive game play. The group takes an aggressive approach to deliver unique, high-energy next-generation titles for 64-bit, personal computer, and Internet platforms. Blockbuster titles currently available from Studio 3DO have reaped accolades from numerous publications.
