Press Release: Software Titles Rolling Out for 3DO System

February 23, 1994

The 3DO Company today announced that sixteen leading software companies will deliver 23 new interactive multimedia titles for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system bringing the total to about 43 by the end of May.  Twenty titles are available nationwide, including Total Eclipse by Crystal Dynamics, which rocketed to the top of the best-sellers list at Software Etc. in the first weeks after its release. Total Eclipse has been hailed by leading video game magazine Die Hard Game Fan as so far beyond what any other game system has been able to show to date that comparisons are not viable.

The new titles span a range of categories, including family entertainment, sports, education, interactive movies, interactive music, information and reference, action, strategy and cartoons.

The growing library of 3DO software titles offers something for everyone, from young children and teenagers to adults and families, said Bob Faber, 3DO s senior vice president of sales and marketing.  These new titles, which benefit from performance increases offered by 3DO technology, take interactive entertainment to levels unmatched by any other platform on the market today.

With many titles currently in development, 3DO expects that about 100 titles will be available by the end of this year.

New 3DO titles expected to appear at retail outlets in the next several weeks include Electronic Arts Twisted: The Game Show, the first computer software ever created that looks and feels like a TV show. Twisted is a wacky interactive game show for up to four players for the whole family to enjoy. Electronic Arts will also be launching John Madden Football, the most realistic football simulation game ever. Also available for sports enthusiasts will be the realistic golf simulator True Golf Classics: Pebble Beach Golf Links from T&E Soft.

In the interactive music category will be Sid Meier’s C.P.U. Bach from MicroProse, the first software of its kind for composing and playing original music. Two interactive movies, Out of This World from Interplay, a cinematically styled alien adventure and Sewer Shark from Digital Pictures, in which the player is a shark moving through a 3-D sewer system, will also come to market in the next several weeks.

New from Sanctuary Woods in the entertainment category is Dennis Miller That’s News to Me, featuring Saturday Night Live’s former anchorman. For strategy fans, Crystal Dynamics will be launching The Horde, a fast-paced action-adventure role-playing game in a magical, humorous medieval setting.

MicroCabin will offer the first architectural and construction simulator for the 3DO system, Life Stage – Virtual House. Rounding out the new titles for the 3DO system are four cartoons, Toon Tim. In the Classroom from Videoact, a series of classic cartoons including Popeye and Bugs Bunny, and the world-famous Woody Woodpecker and Friends in Woody Woodpecker Vol. 1, Vol. 2 and Vol. 3, from MCA Universal Home Video.
