Basque Country 3DO Tournament

Basque Country Tournament 2025

On January 31, Eusko Retro Asociacion organized the III. Basque Country 3DO Panasonic Tournament. We played the first tournament two years ago, and the second one last year and this was a new Basque tournament, the third edition and  a great experience.

This time 6 players participated: Daniel, Joseba, Jon, Ivan, Josu and Egoitz We met in “Bar Berri”, a bar that is located in Santutxu (Bilbao, Basque Country).

After playing the ZX Spectrum, Atari 2600 and Amstrad GX 4000, we put on the TV this great console that we like so much from the 90s: the Panasonic 3DO.

We chose three good games: Starblade, Street Fighter II Turbo, and Wolfenstein 3D. First, we played a new game; Starblade.  A very good game graphically where, for a few minutes, we felt like we were flying through space in a spaceship. It’s an attractive game with a constant fight against everything that comes your way. A very good shooter for the 3DO.

Egoitz was the one who scored the most points but Daniel, who was playing for the first time, did very well.

Then we played Street Fighter II Turbo one-player and at the most difficult level. Since we don’t have the second controller yet, we couldn’t fight against each other. The truth is that it’s sensational to hear the music of Street Fighter II Turbo on the 3DO. What a sound!  This version of Street Fighter II is quite a bit more complicated than the previous versions on the  MegaDrive or Super Nintendo, but that’s okay. Egoitz scored more points than anyone else.

In the last game, Wolfenstein 3D, the player who scored the most points before his character died won. We played the game on the hardest level setting.

We had a great time playing 3DO. It is no surprise that Egoitz achieved more points than anyone else, although it is also true that Egoitz practices at home, and that gives him the edge.

Anyway, all of us enjoyed playing on this great console. Our goal is to continue playing, buy new games and organize the IV. Basque Country 3DO Tournament in August, if all goes well.
