3DO Company showcase more than 25 titles for CES 94

Press Release: 3DO to showcase 25 titles for CES 94

June 21, 1994

The 3DO Company will showcase more than 25 new software titles for the 3DO (TM) Interactive Multiplayer (TM) system in the company’s booth (No. 315, McCormick Place East) at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show (SCES), June 23-25 in Chicago.

Widely anticipated 3DO titles being shown at SCES include Shock Wave (TM), Road Rash (TM), and FIFA International Soccer from Electronic Arts; Demolition Man (TM) from Virgin Interactive Entertainment; Way of the Warrior from Universal Interactive Studios; and Off-World Interceptor (TM) from Crystal Dynamics.

3DO will also deliver three new titles to the 3DO software library this summer through its recently established Studio 3DO and Affiliated Label programs. Gridders (TM) from Tetragon, Inc.; and Mathemagics: An Interactive Learning Cube (TM) from L3 Interactive, Inc. are scheduled for July release; and Soccer Kid (TM) from The 3DO Company is scheduled for availability in August.

“With more than 60 titles available for the 3DO system worldwide, and many more planned through the rest of the year, we have quickly outpaced software availability for any other video game platform at an equivalent point in their product histories,” said Trip Hawkins, 3DO’s president and CEO.

The software lineup for the Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Atari Jaguar platforms in the first nine months of their product lifecycles was much smaller in comparison to what we have today for 3DO.”

Even more important than the number of new titles is the quality of games available for the system. The key to the sophisticated effects and gameplay of the new 3DO titles is the 3DO system itself. With the only double-speed CD-ROM drive available in a video game system today, full motion, full screen video, full fidelity digital CD sound, and a rich graphics architecture, the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system gives software titles unprecedented power and performance.

The titles that we’re showing at CES this week deliver on the 3DO promise with the very best in realistic interactive entertainment,” said Bob Faber, 3DO’s senior vice president of Sales and Marketing.

3DO software is already more sophisticated than software for other video game systems. There is nothing like Twisted (TM), John Madden Football (TM), or Total Eclipse (TM) on any other system. And it’s only going to get better with titles like Way of the Warrior, Demolition Man, and Off-World Interceptor, which are scheduled for delivery this summer and fall. 3DO owners are in for a big treat.

For the last few months, 3DO software titles have been consistently appearing on our top 10 list of video game best sellers,” said Dan DeMatteo, president and CEO of Software Etc. Stores, Inc., a nationwide software specialty chain.

And just this month, the 3DO system itself appeared on our top 10 video game best-seller list. 3DO is clearly a hit with our customers.”

Consumers are responding with enthusiasm to the reduced price of the 3DO system and to the expanding catalogue of 3DO software,” 3DO’s Faber added.

People who value quality interactive entertainment have quickly recognized the unparalleled value of the 3DO system. It’s what customers who want next-generation technology are buying today.”

We are very encouraged by 3DO’s aggressive presence in the market and its commitment to support the platform at the retail level,” said Gary Kusin, president of Babbages, Inc., a national software retailer.

Consumers have responded well to 3DO’s advertising and promotions campaigns.

When customers inquire about 3DO, we now have a wide variety of titles to demonstrate — from sports and arcade games to action adventure and education titles,” said Peter Roithmayr, senior buyer at The Electronics Boutique, a hardware and software retailer.

3DO’s breadth of titles is helping to broaden the base of customers beyond the traditional gamer audience.
